AUG 25-27. Multiple bomb
attacks killed at least 50 people, and injured 70 others, in the south Indian
city of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, on the evening of 25 Aug, 07.
Two explosions took
place minutes apart at the popular Lumbini Park which was packed with families,
watching a laser light show.
A few minutes later
and several miles away, there was another explosion at a crowded local
restaurant that is popular with Hindus and Muslims. And two more bombs exploded
in a crowded bazaar casing panic among evening shoppers.
were later found in two nearby movie theatres. The aim of the terrorists
evidently was to kill as many as possible in a massive attack.
Pratibha Patil said the attacks were aimed at disturbing harmony in the city,
which has a mixed Muslim and Hindu population.
explosions came three months after 11 people were killed in a bombing at the
city's 17th-Century Mecca Mosque.
