My reader, the Middle East is on the brink of a war that will not only push our petrol prices sky high; it will set up the nations for the Climax of the Age – for the Great Tribulation, the rise of the Antichrist and the Mark of the Beast.


Events are moving rapidly, playing out before our eyes. The nations are sinking deeper into the mire.  God’s warnings of impending judgment are being ignored, while the doomsday clock ticks on steadily towards midnight; and while the world’s economic and monetary systems hover on the brink of apocalypse.


The writing is on the wall everywhere.


The Rapture is getting closer every day!

THE battle is on for Aleppo, Syria’s largest city and its commercial capital. It holds the key to the battle for the control of the north of the country.


Street battles have been going on for several weeks, as rebels try to hold on to neighbourhoods captured in an offensive that began on July 2. More than 20,000 people have died in the Syrian uprising so far. But tanks and fighter aircraft have raised the size of the massacres that are happening every day.  Syria’s military has now used MIG-21 fighter jets to strike at rebel strongholds in Aleppo as Bashar al-Assad tell Syrians that the battle for the city will determine the “destiny of our people.” (Aleppo is also called Halab on some maps).


During the first 16 months of Syria’s uprising, Damascus and Aleppo were seen as safe havens from the country's bloodshed. But in July severe fighting broke out in both of these, the biggest Syrian cities. By August 1, more than 200,000 people of Aleppo had left from their homes and fled to Turkey.  Many have been women and children. Most of the men have stayed behind to fight.


The use of MIGs comes as the Syrian military steps up an all-out offensive to drive up to 4,000 lightly-armed rebel insurgents out of Aleppo.


The commander of the rebel’s Free Syrian Army (FSA) said the air strikes by fighter jets were a sign of growing desperation in the regime's military. "The army's morale is at its lowest," he said. "They know that if they send in tanks close to houses and civilians, they risk higher defections. Soldiers are just waiting for their chance to defect."


One army defector says that 60% of the country is now under the control of the rebels - the Free Syrian Army. They have captured all four border crossings on the Iraqi border and one on the Turkish border.


A commentator has said; “If Aleppo falls, this war is over,” because the rebels will then control Idlib Province and then take Hama and Homs.


US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta says, Aleppo could be the “nail in the coffin” for the regime.

Operation Damascus Volcano in July exceeded the rebels’ expectations. The bombing of a secret meeting that killed four top regime officials, including the Defence Minister, Assef Shawkat, one of the most hated regime insiders, shook the government to its core.


Assad’s forces are now over-stretched and over-used. But when their offensives are able to defeat the rebels in battles, as in Damascus’ Midan District which was recaptured by the regime, the fight then moves elsewhere. The regime simply doesn’t have the means to squash the revolution everywhere.

The military looks strong on paper with about 550,000 soldiers in total, but three-fourths were confined to their barracks in order to prevent defections in February. Two-thirds of the reservists didn’t show up for duty. That was six months ago. The rebels estimate that about 50,000 of 280,000 deployed troops have defected.


The best Bashar Assad can hope for is to barricade himself inside a stronghold in the mountainous areas of the northwest and along the Mediterranean Coast.


The regime is suffering a high loss rate while rebel strength is increasing. About 150 of the regime’s troops are killed and wounded every single day. The rebels are getting new shipments of ammunition, machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades and the pace of defections to their side is increasing.


The most significant defection from the Syrian army is that of Brigadier-General Manaf Tlas, a childhood friend of Assad who served in the elite Republican Guards. He is from the second-most famous Sunni family in Syria, and his father was part of Hafez Assad’s innermost circle.


Prime Minister Defects. AUG 6/12. Syria’s prime minister has defected and fled to neighboring Jordan, according to a Jordanian official and a rebel spokesman. “This is evidence that the cracks in President Bashar’s Assad’s regime have reached the highest echelons of government,” reports the Associated Press. 


“Ahmad Kassim, a senior official with the Free Syrian Army, said PM Riad Hijab defected to Jordan along with three other ministers. A Jordanian government official confirmed Hijab had defected with his family. Hijab is the highest-level government official to defect since the uprising against Assad’s authoritarian rule began 17 months ago.


Signs that President Bashar al-Assad is rapidly losing his grip on Syria are alarming neighbours who are fearful of chaos on their doorsteps. Assad’s regional allies, Iran and Hizb’ullah, have the most to lose, while their regional foe, Saudi Arabia, has the most to gain.


One reason why Assad cannot defeat the rebels is that Iran and Hizb’ullah cannot match the foreign aid that is now being given to the rebels by Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the US and others. The Iranian regime is financially strapped due to the European oil embargo and had to cut its funding to Hizb’ullah by 40% in 2010, long before these latest sanctions were even agreed upon.


While it is true that Russia is assisting Assad, it is un-certain how far the Russians are willing to go. Russia cancelled its $100 million sale of the S-300 air defence system to Syria following a meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister, and is now saying that Assad needs a way to leave the country in a “civilized” way.

Most of the world (excluding Russia, China, Iran and Hizb’ullah) are now opposed to the Assad regime. Turkey has essentially created a no-go zone for the rebels that they can retreat to if necessary, and to accommodate thousands of Syrians who have fled from their homes. Turkey deployed more anti-aircraft missiles on the border so that Syrian helicopters dare not come within three miles of the border.


Jordan also has opened its first tent camp for Syrians fleeing violence in their country, as government officials said a surge of refugees left them no other choice.



The reality of demographics makes it impossible for Assad to come back to his glory days as dictator of Syria. The Allawite minority that his regime comes from, represents only about 10-13% of the entire population, and it is probable that a significant amount of Allawites have turned against Assad. The Sunnis, which make up 60 to 74% of the population, are entirely against the regime.


The ethnic Kurds are about 10%, and are also entering the fight: “It seems that the Kurdish Democratic Union party (the Syrian branch of the PKK) controls great swaths of land in Syrian Kurdistan. They are at the same time fighting with both the Syrian Regime Army, and the Free Syrian Army.”


The Christians, another 10% (but again, estimates vary), have mostly felt safer under the Assad regime because of what happened to the Iraqi Christians after Saddam Hussein fell, (many had to flee the country), but the Syrian Christians are not actively supporting Assad. The same goes for the Druze, which make up about 3%.


Assad has reportedly already fled to his Presidential Palace in the coastal city of Latakia. His likely game plan is to turn the northwestern and coastal areas of Syria, called the Allawite Mountains, into a mini-state. This territory would include Latakia and Tartous, a port city with a Russian naval base that can be used to bring in supplies.


The rebels dismiss the possibility of permitting this, but storming these Allawite areas is a much more daunting task than taking Damascus, or even Aleppo. The Allawites believe they’ll be slaughtered if the regime collapses. The pro-regime Allawite militia, called the Shabbiha, shocks the world with its animal-like viciousness. Imagine what the Shabbiha madmen will do if they believe it is their last stand and only chance at survival.


The rebels could agree to a ceasefire and leave the Allawites to their own vices rather than start a bloodbath just to “free” a population that wants to remain under Assad.



A number of jihadi organisations, including al-Qaida, are establishing a foothold in the east of Syria now.  According to German intelligence, around 90 terror attacks were carried out in Syria between the end of December and the beginning of July – attacks that can be attributed to organizations close to al-Qaida or jihadist groups.


Reports tell of al-Qaida fighters among the ranks of the opposition, with some jihadist branches reportedly officially joining the US-supported Free Syrian Army.


"The FSA lacks the ability to plan, and lacks military experience. That is what al-Qaida can bring. They have an organisation that all countries have acknowledged,” says a FSA officer.


"In the beginning there were very few; now there are many immigrants joining us and bringing their experience," he told the gathered people. "Men from Yemen, Saudi, Iraq and Jordan! Al-Qaida's goal is establishing an Islamic state and not a Syrian state! Those who fear the organisation fear the implementation of Allah's jurisdiction. If you don't commit sins there is nothing to fear."


Al-Qaida has existed in this parched region of eastern Syria, where the desert and the tribes straddle the border with Iraq, for almost a decade. Some FSA leaders say: "Al-Qaida is stealing the revolution from us and they are working for the day that comes after."



Prophecy writer, Hal Lindsey, makes the following comments:  As I look at the Middle East this week, one word springs to mind: "confusion."


Whether Bashar al-Assad is assassinated, hands over power peacefully, or makes his escape a few steps ahead of the pursuing rebel forces, it seems to be just a matter of time before Syria becomes a radically different nation.


* The civil war in Syria is no ordinary civil war. The nation of Syria is critical to several different players -- all of whom figure prominently in the end-times scenario:


* The Iranians don't want Assad to fall because they don't want to lose their closest ally and proxy or access to Lebanon and the Mediterranean.


* Both Turkey and Saudi Arabia want Assad to go because they want to see Iran's influence in the region diminished.


* Russia doesn't want to lose a major arms client, access to its warm-water naval base at Tartous, or see Turkey's regional influence strengthened.


* Egypt's new Muslim Brotherhood leadership wants to see him gone so their comrades, the Syrian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, can get a shot at the power.


* Lebanon's Hizb’ullah doesn't want to lose its weapons pipeline from Iran.


* And, paradoxically, Israel and Jordan aren't too excited about Assad's impending departure either, because they know how to deal with him.  And who's to say the nature of the Muslim nation that will replace him?


(Egypt is a perfect example of this dilemma.)


But these competing agendas are not the only elements that complicate the crisis.


* Syria has major stockpiles of biological and chemical weapons -- many of which they received from Saddam Hussein shortly before the Coalition invasion of Iraq.


They also have the missiles to deliver the bio-chemical warheads.






The regime has, for the first time, admitted that it possesses chemical weapons. It is believed to be a frightening amount. The Syrian government has threatened to use these weapons of mass destruction if they are attacked by foreign forces.


A Foreign Ministry spokesman reiterated this week that Syria reserves the right to use these weapons in the face of "external aggression." They themselves, of course, will decide what the "external aggression" is! Orders to use chemical weapons would create irresistible political pressure for an international coalition to immediately intervene and bring Assad down.


Recently, Syrian security forces have been observed moving these bio/chemical weapons to various staging areas around the country. Of course, the main fear is that they will use them to suppress the rebellion. But it's not inconceivable that Assad may launch these weapons against Israel to draw other Muslim nations into the fray (and establish his legacy among Muslim leaders).


Of course, Israel has let it be known that any bio/chem attack against Israel will be answered swiftly and decisively. And the prophet Isaiah's yet-to-be-fulfilled prophecy that Damascus will be destroyed overnight, looms large at a critical moment like this.



This prophecy is very much on the mind of those who are watching prophetic developments today.



The oracle concerning Damascus ...


“Look! Damascus is about to be removed from being a city, and it will become a heap of ruins. … The fortified city will disappear from Ephraim, and sovereignty from Damascus; the remnant of Aram  (Syria)will be like the departed glory of the sons of Israel,’ declares YHWH of Hosts.”  (Isaiah 27:1, 3)


Jeremiah also prophesied concerning Syria  …


“Concerning Damascus: ‘Hamath (177 km north of Damascus) and Arpad (near Aleppo) have been put to shame, for they have heard bad news. They have melted away with anxiety. There is distress on the sea which cannot be calmed. Damascus has become feeble; she has turned to flee, and panic has seized her.


“Anguish and pain have taken hold of her like a woman in labour. How it has been deserted - the city of praise, the city of My joy! Therefore, her young men will fall in her streets, and all the men of war will be silenced in that day,’ declares YHWH of Hosts. ‘I shall set fire to the wall of Damascus, and it will consume the fortified towers of Ben-hadad.’ ” (Jeremiah 49:23-27)



Christians are fleeing Syria in record numbers. Dutch journalist and human rights analyst Martin Janssen says the Christian refugees first fled because of an ultimatum issued by the military chief of the armed opposition.


Since the conflict broke out, only 1,000 of the city’s 10,000 faithful were left, and they also are now being forced to flee immediately. “Some of the city’s mosques have issued the message again, announcing from the minarets: “Christians must leave Qusayr within six days.”


There are very few places to which they can go, and the churches in Syria know very well what happened to the Iraqi Christians. Hundreds of thousands Christians fled that country because of the violence targeting them.


A Christian ministry says the pressure to flee comes in many forms. “Protests, assaults, bombings, thefts and kidnappings are all part of daily life in Syria.” But where will a Syrian exodus lead to? Which country will welcome hundreds of thousands Christian refugees in a period where borders seem to become more and more closed?


Under Assad, Christians enjoyed a measure of freedom to worship — amongst a population which is 90% Muslim. In fact, Christians in Syria were granted a degree of religious freedom not seen in most other Middle Eastern countries – before or after the Arab Spring.




Assad’s problems are being compounded by large numbers of fighters coming from outside Syria. These foreign fighters considerthemselves to be holy war warriors,  jihadists fighting against an atheist regime. They are not interested in democracy and human rights for minorities.


This has paved the way for the dangerous and growing presence of al-Qaida inside Syria, and this development has changed the nature of the Syrian crisis profoundly. The crisis has become a full-blown, internationally-sponsored, civil war.


Now observers say it is only a matter of time before President Bashar Assad loses his iron grip on power. But who will take over at the helm?


Should the Syrian regime be toppled, the question arises who will fill the power vacuum that’s left behind? The Syrian National Council (SNC) has acted as the international face of the revolution. But the organization has been unable to unite the various disparate rebel factions under one umbrella. The SNC secretariat convened in Qatar recently to try to agree on a transitional leadership to replace Assad's regime when it falls.


A major force being closely observed is Syria's Muslim Brotherhood. It holds the largest number of seats in the SNC and controls its relief committee - and thereby the distribution of SNC funds in Syria.


The movement said it was ready for the post-Assad era.



"We have plans for the economy, the courts, politics," the Brotherhood's spokesman told news agency AFP.


The group has stressed its “moderate stance,” saying it was committed to setting up a “multi-party democracy” when Assad is toppled.


Though the Muslim Brotherhood has re-emerged as a major political force since the turmoil in Syria began in March 2011, no one can say for certain just how popular it is within the country. But the Muslim Brotherhood wants to establish Sharia Law as the basis for controlling the affairs of state and society, and to unify all Islamic and Arab states under its Caliphate.


Saudi Arabia is a key financial backer of the Syrian rebellion, and it has given refuge to General, Manaf Tlass, who defected in early July. He was a commander in the powerful Republican Guard and formerly a close confidant of the Assad's. Tlass has said he would work to unite the opposition. General Tlass was the highest ranking officer to abandon the regime


"Saudi Arabia,” for one, “doesn't want the Muslim Brotherhood in power," an insider said. "The Saudis are promoting General Tlass in the media as the man with the roadmap. Saudi Arabia wants stability and sees a military leadership achieving that."


It is possible that a man like General Tlass could head an Egyptian-style supreme military council that could keep the Syrian armed forces intact and loyal.


Whatever future political composition evolves in Syria, it will most likely include various groups, including the Muslim Brotherhood.



AUG 4/12. “Iran is sending thousands of fighters to help the Bashar Assad regime in its ongoing conflict with rebel forces, according to Col. Abdul-Jabbar Mohammed Aqidi, the commander of rebel forces in Aleppo province. He said that 3,000 Iranians had already passed through Damascus International Airport in the last week.” - The Times of Israel.




AUG 3/12. Syria has reached an agreement with ally Russia to secure much-needed fuel, as a delegation sent by President Bashar Assad asked Moscow to help alleviate the effects of sanctions on the war-torn country.  And the Russian Defence Ministry issued somewhat contradictory statements about a group of its naval warships steaming into the eastern Mediterranean.


Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly sending naval warships and Russian marines to Syria as a show of support for Assad, though it's not clear how far the Kremlin is willing to go to defend the “Dictator of Damascus.”

AUG 3/12. The Syrian army has moved new surface-to-air missile batteries to the Lebanese border, according to Arab media. The report comes after Israel had warned it will strike Syria's chemical facilities if President Bashar Assad transfers his chemical stockpile to Hizb’ullah.



The latest reports indicate that while more than 20,000 Syrians have been killed in the uprising, the rebels are steadily winning control of more and more of the country.


But the rebels are no friends of freedom. Should they topple the Assad regime and seize control, we could see a repeat of the Egyptian revolution last year where Radical Islamic jihadists end up gaining control of the country. - Ynet News



AUG 5/12.  Israel is upgrading its Arrow II ballistic missile shield in a US-backed "race" against Iran, Syria and other regional enemies, according to a senior Israeli defence official.







Last month, Iran's Supreme leader, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei delivered a major address to the nation through the state media, in which he reminded followers worldwide that we are now living in the "end of times."


He didn't mince words when he notified the world of his and Iran's intentions. He said, "The issue of Imam Mahdi is of utmost importance, and his reappearance has been clearly stated in our holy religion of Islam. We must prepare the environment for the coming so that the great leader will come."


The Imam Mahdi is Islam's messiah figure who has been “hidden” for centuries, but is predicted to reappear on earth amid an apocalyptic and catastrophic war, and will defeat Islam's enemies and subdue the world for Islam.


Many Muslims -- including Ayatollah Khamenei and President Ahmadinejad -- believe it is their duty to create the conditions that will usher in the Mahdi. That means they feel it's their responsibility to start an apocalyptic war, and they say so publicly, even from the podium of the United Nations!


Yet Western leaders and the media refuse to take them at their word. Instead, the media insist that evangelical Christians who believe in the Rapture of the church and the Second Coming of Jesus Christ are the ones who want to start Armageddon so that Jesus will return! 


Of course that's twisting what the Bible prophets have prophesied for these days -- the "end times."





Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is once again calling for the annihilation of Israel.


“Anyone who loves freedom and justice must strive for the annihilation of the Zionist regime in order to pave the way for world justice and freedom,” he said in a recent Ramadan speech.


Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, meanwhile, is being as forthright as he can be. War may be coming very soon. He told US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta who was visiting Israel, that time is running out for the international community to neutralize the Iranian nuclear threat.


Yes, economic sanctions are seriously harming Iran’s economy — driving up prices, creating scarcity of certain products, etc. — but Netanyahu is making clear that he doesn’t see the sanctions actually having any effect on changing Tehran’s feverish bid to build nuclear weapons.


“However forceful our statements, they have not convinced Iran that we are serious about stopping them,” Netanyahu told reporters. “Right now the Iranian regime believes that the international community does not have the will to stop its nuclear program.” What’s more, Netanyahu said, sanctions have “yet to move its nuclear program even a millimetre backwards.”


As long as the Iranians are given the message that they


have nothing to worry about, that there is no military solution, that no one is capable of making a decision, it becomes more likely that we will wake up one morning and watch Ahmadinejad’s smiling face as the Iranians conduct their first successful nuclear test.



AUG 1/12. An army of operatives are planning for terror, and destruction of the West.


The Quds Forces, a special Iranian unit of thousands of operatives tasked with exporting Iran’s Islamic revolution, are being told to step up preparations for terrorism for the coming of the last Islamic messiah and the destruction of the West.


Ali Saeedi, the Iranian supreme leader’s representative to the Revolutionary Guards, emphasized during a Friday sermon in Tehran that the Islamic republic must directly confront America so that the necessary environment is created for the reappearance of Mahdi, the Shiite’s 12th imam, who will kill all infidels and raise the flag of Islam in all corners of the world.


This is the first time a high-ranking Iranian official has stated on the record that the Quds Forces are not only involved in the region, but also internationally for a final confrontation with the West.


In another Guards’ weekly publication, Sobhe Sadegh, a front-page analysis explains that the opening of Iran’s geopolitics and the empowerment of its Islamic power are a reality in which Iran’s influence has expanded not only in the region, but also in Africa, Latin America, Eastern Asia and even in Europe and America.


The analysis refers to the statements of the founder of the Islamic revolution, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini:


“I say with all certainty that the 21st century will be the century of Islam.”


“I say with all certainty that Islam will conquer all key entrenchments of the world.”


“I say with all certainty that Islam will defeat all world powers.


As was the fall of socialism and the Eastern bloc, the analysis promises, so will be the fall of the capitalism and liberal democracy.



AUG 3/12.  "An Israeli military strike on Iran may be just weeks or at most a couple of months away.” That is the assessment of Aharon Zeevi Farkash, a former Israeli Military intelligence chief. “It seems to me,” he said, that an Israeli attack could come in the near future … that is, in weeks or a couple of months.”


Asked whether an Israeli strike would lead to war, he responded:  “Absolutely.”


The Iranians have to understand that if they don’t halt their nuclear drive, they will ultimately have to absorb a blow to their main military sites, from an international coalition, or from the US, or perhaps from Israel.”


Personally, Farkash added, he did not think the time was yet right for a resort by Israel to military action. The decision-makers should think twice, he said. - Times of Israel




A series of public statements and private communications from the Israeli leadership in recent weeks set off renewed concerns in the Obama administration that Israel might be preparing a unilateral military strike on Iran, perhaps as early as this fall.


In Israel, there is feverish speculation that Mr Netanyahu will act in September or early October. Besides the Prime Minister’s fear that Israel’s window of opportunity will close soon, analysts cite several reasons for the potential timing: 


1.  Israel does not like to fight wars in winter.


2. Mr Netanyahu feels that he will have less leverage if President Obama is re-elected; and 3. if Mr Romney were to win, the new president would be unlikely to want to take on a big military action early in his term.


“If I were an Iranian, I would be very fearful of the next 12 weeks,” said Efraim Halevy, a former chief of Israel’s intelligence agency and national security adviser.


The Iranian supreme leader is also warning of the imminent war.  ….




DEBKAfile . AUG 1/12.  On July 27, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei summoned top Iranian military chiefs for what he called “their last war council.”


debkafile’s exclusive Iranian and intelligence sources disclose that he told the gathering, “We’ll be at war within weeks.”  Present at the council were Defence Minister General Ahmad Vahidi, Khamenei’s military adviser General Yahya Rahim-Safavi, Armed Forces Chief Major General Seyed Hassan Firuzabadi, Revolutionary Guards Corps commander General Mohammad Ali Jafari and Al Qods Brigades chief General Qassem Soleimani.


The commanders of the air force, the navy and ground forces were also there.


Each of the participants was tapped to report on the readiness of his branch or sector for shouldering its contingency mission.


While retaliation had been exhaustively drilled in regular military exercises in the past year, Khamenei ordered the biggest fortification project in Iran’s history to save its nuclear program from even the mightiest of America’s super-weapons. Rocks are being gathered from afar, piled on key nuclear installations, covered with many tons of poured concrete and finally plated with steel.


30,000 pound bunker busters

That same Friday, the US Air force unveiled its new Massive Ordnance Penetrators. Each bunker buster weighs 30,000 pounds and is able to penetrate 60 feet of reinforced concrete.


Turning to retaliation, the Iranian war council endorsed a battery of paybacks for potential US and/or Israeli pre-emptive strikes against its nuclear program. They would start by announcing enhanced uranium enrichment up to 60% - that is close to weapons grade.


Often-tested ballistic missiles, Shehab-3, would be loosed against Israel, Saudi Arabia and American Middle East and Gulf military installations.


Hizb’ullah in Lebanon, and Hamas and Jihad Islami in Gaza stand ready to pitch in against Israel with attacks from the north and the southwest.


Saudi oil export terminals would be blown up and mines sown in the Strait of Hormuz to impede the export of one-fifth of the world’s oil.


Khamenei put before his war council a timeline of weeks for the coming conflict – September or October.




US TO SMASH IRAN’S MISSILES, ISRAEL TO TACKLE SYRIA AND HIZB’ULLAH An authoritative US military source told debkafile on Aug. 5 that the American armed forces are standing ready for war with Iran. Without going into the thorny question of who should lead the operation to dismantle Iran’s nuclear program, the US or Israel, it is understood that one of the US Air Force’s tasks will be to destroy Iran’s Shehab-3 ballistic missile batteries which have Israel and Saudi Arabia within range.


This task is not as formidable as Iranian spokesmen would have the world believe.  Tehran’s entire stock of those missiles is no more than 30-40. That quantity is not nearly enough to take on the entire gamut of potential wartime foes, the US Middle East bases, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan and Turkey. They would quickly be picked off by American Aegis Ballistic Missile Defence Systems and Israeli Arrow guided interceptor rockets, which are synchronized through the advanced US X-Band radar systems installed in the Israeli Negev and southeast Turkey.


By wiping out the Shehabs, the US high command would leave the Israeli Air Force free to take on the thousands of rockets Syria, the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Palestinian Hamas and Jihad Islami have stored ready for shooting in support of an Iranian missile offensive - not just against Israel, but Turkey and Jordan as well.


On Aug 4, the Iranian Defence Minister, Gen. Ahmad Vahidi, announced that his ministry’s aerospace industries had successfully test-fired the fourth generation of high-precision Fateh-110 missiles with a range of over 300km. The new Fateh is dubbed “The Conqueror.”


Debkafile’s military sources add that the Fateh-110 is the core weapon Syria and Hezbollah have stocked for destroying strategic targets in Israel, Jordan and Turkey.

JULY 26/12. Christian writer, Joel Richardson, says there are things about Iran that few people, including American Christians, know.


“First, the present regime is on the verge of being toppled. The Iranian people are extremely unhappy with their leadership. There is the very real chance that the present mullocracy could fall in a very short time. Recent and credible intelligence reports argue that the looming fall of the Assad regime in Syria will be a devastating blow to the Ayatollah’s regime,” he said.


“Second, the nation of Iran is presently experiencing the greatest Christian awakening in the world.


Recently, Richardson was a guest on a show broadcast via satellite into Iran hosted by Pastor Hormoz Shariat, Ph.D., who is known as “the Billy Graham of Iran.” His television show on the Shabakeh7, or Network7, channel is so popular that Shariat is said to be the third most recognisable figure in Iran after Ayatollah Khamenei and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.


A former research scientist, he now helps leads Iran Alive Ministries, which operates the Shabakeh7 channel, which is a 24-hour-a-day programming into Iran.


The name Shabekah7 is a reference to the fact that there are six official television stations in Iran. Although Shabekah7 is an outside station beamed in via satellite, it is estimated to be watched far more than the official networks.


Pointing to the profound moment of societal, religious and cultural shaking taking place in Iran, the Iran Alive website added:


“Violence and crime are on the rise as Iran has the highest drug use per capita in the world. Out of desperation, people are turning to drugs and prostitution to escape the pain of their seemingly hopeless situation. With the prevalence of crime and addiction, there is a growing public opinion that something is fundamentally wrong with Islam and people are seeking change in multiple ways: politically, spiritually and culturally.


“In this unique season of the spiritual revolution, Iran Alive Ministries has the opportunity to greatly impact the next generation of Iranians who are desperately searching for the transformation of their country.”


Since its work began, Iran Alive Ministries has documented more than 21,000 salvations. The mission statement of Iran Alive Ministries is: “Transforming Iran into a Christian nation in this generation.”


Though some skeptics claim that this goal is far too optimistic and unrealistic, Iran Alive workers are not deterred.


“Despite tremendous resistance, the church in Iran right now is growing at a rate of 20% per year. Conservative estimates claim that there are presently between 2 to 7 million Christians in Iran.


Most of these are newer converts. At the rate the present revival is spreading, in just a few years, that level of growth could be truly explosive,” sources reported.





“Be patient, therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Master. See how the farmer waits expectantly for the precious 'fruit of the earth,' waiting patiently until the land receives the early and late rains. You too be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Master is near.”   (James 5:7-8)




 Following on from the article in last month’s “Maranatha Hope of Glory,” by Joel Rosenberg, “Implosion. America Teetering on a Precipice,” our MRC representative in the US, Jeff Stevens, has expressed the grave concerns of many for the United States at this time. 


Not only is America being plagued by violence and massive disasters, the Biblical heritage of the country is being attacked in a multitude of ways. Weighed against what Joel has written, I believe Jeff’s article, and his call for urgent prayer, is most timely.








 There is a fierce battle raging for the soul of America. The nation is very divided and it is not the same country we had just a short time ago. The election this November is crucial and we must vote into office people of strong moral principle. Many churches are holding 40-day prayer vigils leading up to election day on November 6.  Please pray with us urgently for America.


The Christian community, and others who are concerned for America, view the upcoming elections as crucial for the direction of the nation. The stakes are high and our future hangs in the balance.


On the left we have people (comprised mainly of Democrats, unions, and liberals) who play down the importance of our Judeo-Christian heritage on which this nation was founded. They want an open, liberal society without God. They would like to see socialism/communism replace our current form of government. They want less responsibility, and more reliance on government.


On the right we have people (made up of Republicans, conservatives, and mainline religion), who hold dear the principles of the founding fathers, and want to ensure that they remain intact. Also, they want to preserve the capitalistic system that has made America great and strong.


The soul of the United States is up for grabs.

America is a Christian country and our founding documents (the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States) clearly demonstrate this. In addition, the writings of the founding fathers often invoked the Name of God in their compositions.


One of them, Thomas Jefferson, stated:

“The God who gave us life gave us liberty… can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction… that these liberties are the gift of God?”


Our historical buildings and monuments throughout Washington, Boston, Philadelphia and other places have messages inscribed in them extolling the virtues of God as our Creator and Provider.

In the opening statements of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States we read:


The Declaration: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”


The Constitution: “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquillity, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”


These are great documents. We must adhere to them if America is to remain true to itself.

Right now the United States has a very real leadership problem. We need leaders who will lead and serve the country the way it was intended in the Constitution. America desperately needs your prayers.


What is a good leader? 


Here are some of his characteristics:

1.   A good leader is a person who can rally others around a common cause.

2.   A good leader exhibits humility and good moral character, and honours God.

3.   A good leader is one who can be trusted, and keeps his word.

4.   A good leader is one who maintains fiscal integrity.

5.   A good leader is genuinely concerned for, and faithfully serves his people.

Our current leadership has clearly failed in multiple ways. 


A whole list of the disastrous measures and failures of President Obama’s ‘Hope & Change’ leadership could be listed as examples of the many ways he has abused his power in office, skirted around the Constitution, divided the nation, promoted class warfare, promoted the re-distribution of wealth, and has failed as a leader.


One of the most telling is that in three years, Obama has created around $5 trillion debt - more debt that the first 41 presidents combined.  The US national debt is now above $15 trillion, and rising.


During the 2008 presidential elections I wrote and warned of the dangers, and asked our U.S. readers to pray for America and the elections. (see MHG # 36, September 2008). While some criticized my suggestion, most gave their support. The reason I was greatly concerned was that we did not know much about Barack Obama, and we still don’t!


But it has turned out that Obama has strong socialist/communist leanings whose goal is to steer America away from its Christian heritage and from its capitalistic economic system. 


Today we are facing another crisis. If he is re-elected in November, Obama will be free to carry out more damaging programs and heap more debt upon the American people. Unemployment will skyrocket, and Obama could indeed preside over the implosion of the United States.

That’s encouraging. I just wish I could say that about Australia. Here the God of the Bible seems to be one of our “lesser deities,” and “God” does not even cross over the lips of the Prime Minister and most of the politicians. To some, “God” is just “the bloke upstairs.”


Anyway, I asked Jeff to amplify his statement about God in America, and he has kindly supplied the following enlightening information.

Most of the Founding Fathers were deeply religious, and they looked to the God of the Bible for inspiration and guidance in establishing the United States. On that note, they based our form of government on Isaiah 33:22,


“For the LORD is our Judge (our judicial branch of government), the LORD is our lawgiver (our legislative branch of government), the LORD is our king (our executive branch of government); it is He who will save us.

Our rights come from the Ten Commandments. Our liberty comes from God. (2 Corinthians 3:17)


In his book, “Rediscovering God in America: Reflections on the role of Faith in our Nation’s History and Future,” Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives opens with, “There is no attack on American culture more destructive and more historically dishonest than the secular Left’s relentless effort to drive God out of America’s public square.


His book is a walking tour of our nation’s capital showing the role God played in our founding, and cites many examples of Christian sayings and symbols in our historical buildings and monuments.  Here are a few:


1. The colonists argued with the British government about first principles. Where did power come from? Who defined rights between king and subject? What  defined loyalty?  It was in this historical context that America proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence that all people are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.


2  Our first president, George Washington, at his first Inauguration on April 30, 1789, put his right hand on the Bible, and after taking the oath of office, added “So help me God.”  He then bent forward and kissed the      Bible and remarked, “It would be … improper to omit in this first official act my fervent supplications to that Almighty Being who rules over the universe, who presides in the councils of nations…”


3  The National Archives is the repository of our nation’s important documents. Upon entering the building, you will see an image of the Ten Commandments.


4  The Washington Monument is full of references to our Creator. Atop the Monument is a capstone which reads in Latin, “Laus Deo,” which means “Praise be to  God.” 


5  The Jefferson Memorial contains four wall panels with references to God. Under the interior dome is the following quote:  “I have sworn upon the altar of God, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the minds of men.”


6  The Lincoln Memorial honors our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, who brought the Civil War to a close. A devout Christian, the Memorial displays his many writings about his faith in God.


7  The Vietnam Veterans Memorial was dedicated by Ronald Reagan in 1982. It is a living memorial to our fallen heroes in that war.  At the dedication Reagan said, “We honor you. And we have faith that, as He does with all His sacred children, the LORD will bless you and keep you, the LORD will make His face shine upon you and give you peace, now and forever more.”


8 The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial honors the memory of our 32nd president who served during World War 2 and The Great Depression. The memorial has a panel which displays the words, “O LORD, give us faith. Give us faith in Thee; faith in our sons; faith in each other; faith in our united crusade.  Thy will be done, Almighty God. Amen.”  As you leave the memorial, the last quotation on the wall reads:

“Freedom of speech; Freedom of worship; Freedom from want; Freedom from fear.”


The Capital Building is an imposing structure and is our seat of power. Built in stages, the initial building was dedicated by George Washington in 1793.  It is full of Biblical references and imagery. The ceiling of the rotunda has a fresco showing George Washington in heaven. There are paintings and statues all over. Several paintings have religious significance, such as The Landing of Columbus, The Embarkation of the Pilgrims, and The Baptism of Pocahontas. There is a stained glass window in the chapel which depicts George Washington kneeling and praying. Above his are the words, “This Nation Under God.” Surrounding Washington are the words:

“Preserve Me O God For In Thee Do I Put My Trust.”  (Psalm 16:1)   


10 The Supreme Court is the highest court in the land, and is filled with religious sayings.  There is a statue of Moses holding two tablets containing the Ten Commandments, which affirms the Judeo-Christian roots of our legal system. Moses is found in several places in   the building including inside the actual courtroom as part of the “great lawgivers of history” frieze. There is a sculpture entitled “Justice the Guardian of Liberty,” which features Moses.     

Justice David Joseph Brewer (1837-1910) stated, “The American nation from its first settlement at Jamestown to this hour is based upon and permeated by the principles of the Bible.”


11 The Library of Congress serves as a legislative library and research arm of Congress, the copyright agency of the United States, and a public institution open to everyone. John Adams, our 2nd president, called the Library, “The Rock Upon Which Our Republic Rests.”  He said, “The highest story of the American Revolution is this: It connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of  Christianity.” 


Among the Library’s numerous collections is the Giant Bible of Mainz (a handwritten and illustrated version of the Bible considered to be one of the most beautiful ever created), and the Guttenberg Bible (the first mass-printed book).


In addition to the two Bibles, the Library’s Great Hall    displays other evidence of the nation’s strong Biblical and religious underpinnings. The following passages are inscribed on the ceiling and walls of the Great Hall:


“The light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not” (John 1:5);  “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom and with all thy getting, get understanding” (Proverbs 4:7); and Dante’s “Nature is the Art of God.”


The Library’s Main Reading Room displays a bronze statue of Moses holding the Ten Commandments, and a painting on the ceiling called “Judea,” showing a young Jewish woman praying.


There are two scripture passages inscribed on the walls of the Main Reading Room:

“What doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God” (Micah 6:8), and, “The heavens declare the Glory of God, and the firmament showeth His handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1).


12  The Ronald Reagan Building is used by both the government and the private sector.  Outside the main entrance to the building is a statue called “Liberty of Worship.” The figure leans against the Ten Commandments, yet another allusion to the close tie between religion and liberty.  It is especially appropriate that the “Liberty of Worship” statue is outside a federal building because Reagan saw religious liberty as an irreplaceable part of our democratic freedoms. 


Reagan, who spoke eloquently and often about his faith in God and how He inspired him and the nation, gave his “In God I Trust” speech in 1984 at an ecumenical prayer breakfast.  In it he declared, “Faith and religion play a critical role in the political life of our nation, and always have; and that the church, and by that I mean all churches, all denominations, have had a strong influence on the state.”


One of Reagan’s most memorial speeches was delivered before the National Association of Evangelicals in 1983. In it, he famously called the Soviet Union an “evil empire” and promised “one day, with God’s help” the world’s nuclear arsenals would be totally  eliminated.    


In the same speech, he attacked the government’s “attempts to water down traditional values and even abrogate the original terms of American democracy.


Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant and the rule of law under God is acknowledged.” He then closed the speech with scripture:


“He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might He increased strength. But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary.”


13 The White House is the private home for the president and is the executive office. It was built in stages. The first cornerstone was laid in 1792 by George Washington.  The White House is the most recognized landmark in Washington, D.C., and displays numerous religious sayings. The John Adam’s fireplace mantel has this prayer:


“I pray to heaven to bestow the best of blessings on this house and all that hereafter inhabit it. May none but the honest and wise men ever rule under this roof.”


14  In 1953, president Dwight D. Eisenhower hosted the National Prayer Breakfast at the White House. Over the years, the annual tradition has grown to include friends from all fifty states and many countries around the world.


These are just some of the examples that illustrate the religious founding of the United States, which have contributed immensely to her greatness.   


The claim that America is not a Christian nation is untrue. Most people in the United States call themselves Christians. We have churches everywhere, and most have strong attendance. The mega-churches have congregations of several thousand in each service. We have many believers who are doctors, lawyers, judges, politicians, scientists, soldiers, teachers, astronauts, sports figures, business leaders, and the list goes on and on.


And, here are some of the things that Christians in America have established, operated and done in the name of Christ: Hospitals, clinics, leper colonies, schools, universities, libraries, job training centers, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, rescue missions, drug re-hab centers, orphanages, disaster relief and response groups, housing for the poor and elderly, drought relief, and many other things.


In addition, Christians in America donate freely to all kinds of charitable causes, making America the most giving country in the world. And, when disaster strikes anywhere in the world, Christians from the United States rush to help. In recent years Christians have helped out when there are wars, earthquakes, tsunamis, storms and tornados, famine, and other natural and man-made disasters.


Yes, America is a Christian nation. It was founded on Christian principles, and it has sought to live in accordance with Biblical teachings.


But today, evil agendas are seeking to destroy our heritage. There is a war under way to destroy the soul of the United States. (And no doubt that is true of every nation.)


Brethren, pray for us!  If our demise continues, it will also affect your country, more and more.

“I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a calm and peaceful life in all reverence and seriousness. This type of prayer is good, and is approved by God our Saviour, who wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men - the Man, Y'shua the Messiah (Jesus Christ), who gave Himself as a ransom for all men.” (1 Timothy 2:1-6)





AUG 2012. As you read this, the US is experiencing the worst drought it has seen since the Dust Bowl days of the 1930s. According to the US Drought Monitor, as of July 31st, close to two-thirds of the continental US was experiencing at least some level of Drought.


As you read this, nearly half of all corn crops in the US are in "poor" or "very poor" condition. The price of corn has hit a brand new record high this summer and so has the price of soybeans.


As I write this, 38 major wildfires are ripping across the central and western US. The brutal wildfires in Oklahoma have been so bad that they have made national headlines.


More than half of all the counties in this country have been declared to be "natural disaster areas" by the US Department of Agriculture. Things are so bad for ranchers that the CEO of Smithfield Foods is projecting that meat prices will rise by "significant double digits" in the months ahead.  Sadly, this drought is projected to continue throughout August and into September. Yes, things are really bad this year, but when you step back and take a look at the broader picture they become truly frightening.  -


BUT YAHWEH the almighty SAYS: “If I shut up the heavens and there is no rain... and My people who are called by My Name humble themselves and pray, and seek My Face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and heal their land'."   (2 Chronicles 7:13-14)





Italian PM Mario Monti warned: “Tensions within the eurozone over how to resolve the debt crisis are turning countries against each other and threatening to rip Europe apart.”


Resentment in Italy is growing against Germany, the European Union and even German Chancellor Angela Merkel herself, he said, adding that “the pressures already bear the traits of a psychological break-up of Europe.”



The financial chess game in Europe is still being played out, but in the end it is going to boil down to one very fundamental decision.


Is Germany going to allow the ECB to print up trillions of euros and use those euros to buy up the sovereign debt of troubled eurozone members such as Spain and Italy, or not?  Nothing short of this is going to solve the problems.


Anyone who thinks they are going to solve the problems in Europe is someone that would also take a water pistol to fight a raging wildfire. No, the only thing that is going to keep Spain and Italy from collapsing under the weight of a mountain of debt is a financial nuke.


The European Central Bank needs to have the power to print up trillions of euros and use that money to buy up massive amounts of sovereign debt in order to guarantee that Spain and Italy will be able to borrow lots more money at very low interest rates. This may be what ECB president Mario Draghi has in mind when he says that he is going to "do whatever it takes to preserve the euro."


However, there is one giant problem.  The ECB is not going to be able to do this unless Germany allows them to. And after enduring the horror of hyperinflation under the Weimar Republic, Germany is not too keen on introducing trillions upon trillions of new euros into the European economy.


If Germany allows the ECB to go down this path, Germany will end up experiencing tremendous inflation and the only benefit for Germany will be that the eurozone was kept together. That doesn't sound like a very good deal for Germany.   –


Meanwhile, the situation in Spain gets worse by the day.




The jobless rate has risen to 24.6% the National Statistics Institute said last month. The number of unemployed Spaniards rose to 5.7 million.


An article in Der Spiegel recently described the slow motion bank run that is systematically ripping the Spanish banking system to shreds. Capital outflows from Spain more than quadrupled in May to 41.3 billion ($50.7 billion) compared with May 2011, according to figures released by the Spanish central bank. In the first five months of 2012, a total of 163 billion left the country. Authorities in Spain are now starting to panic.


According to Graham Summers, Spain has imposed the following new capital restrictions ....


A minimum fine of 10,000 for taxpayers who do not report their foreign accounts.


Secondary fines of 5,000 for each additional account.


No cash transactions greater than 2,500 by individuals and businesses are allowed.










India’s Northern power grid crashed twice at the end of July, wreaking havoc at airports, railway and metro stations, hospitals and across traffic congested roads. The shocking failure directly affected some 600 million people across 22 states, including the capital New Delhi. It left people helpless and sweltering in searing temperatures that were exacerbated by high levels of humidity.


“The first power breakdown occurred around 1.30 in the morning. “It was frightening as nothing worked for hours thereafter,” a banker Rishi said. It seemed almost “apocalyptic,” he added.


Thousands of passengers were stranded for hours at Delhi’s two main railway stations as all trains to the northern states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir remained non-functional. Delhi Metro railway services ceased to operate for up to four hours and the city’s normally chaotic traffic gridlocked the capital for hours on end, even after power was restored.


It was a “small” foretaste of the Tribulation when EMP (Electromagnetic pulse nukes), and the sun’s outrage, will undoubtedly destroy electronic infrastructure, and send populations back into the dark ages.

The message today is “Flee from the wrath to come.” 


All types of disasters, violence, economic troubles, nuclear perils and alarming conditions are here, filling men’s hearts with fear. 


In the midst of it all, the Hand that was nailed to Calvary’s cross,  now stretches out to all who will put their hand in His.


“For while we were still helpless … God demonstrated His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Y’shua, Jesus the Messiah died for us.”  (Romans 5:5,8)


“The Father loves the Son, Y’shua/Jesus, and has placed everything in His hand. He who believes (has faith in) in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not believe and trust in the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him." (John 3:35-36)


“Whoever will call upon the Name of the LORD will be saved.” (Romans 10:13)


Therefore,  “Seek the LORD while He may be found. Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts. Let him return to the LORD, and He will have compassion on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.” (Isaiah 55:6-7)
